The New Year yet again saw inflation-busting fare hikes on our public transport.
The cost of train fares increased by an average of 3.1% this year. This is above than the rate of inflation and far higher than wages, further adding to the cost of living crisis faced by New Cross residents.
This means a zone 1-6 annual travelcard is now a massive £509 more than it was in 2008 when Boris Johnson took over.
Yet as they're hiking up prices, the Tories are also planning to close all ticket offices on the tube network. This would lead to the loss of hundreds of jobs and threaten safety at our stations.
Labour are calling for a tougher cap on rail fares on all routes to give passengers a better deal. We are also demanding that all stations remain staffed so that they are safe and accessible to all. Find out more about the campaign here.
