A major construction project by Thames Water is set to bring disruption, noise and polution to Deptford town centre. We will be holding a demonstration on Thursday 21st November to call on them to think again.
They are planning to build a construction site for the Thames Tunnel Super Sewer on Crossfield Green, just off Deptford Church Street. It will cause three and a half years of disruption to St Paul's Church, St Joseph's Primary School and local residents on Crossfields and the surrounding area.
We have been supporting the community campaign - Don't Dump on Deptford's Heart - which has been calling for Thames Water to reconsider their decision. There will be a public demonstration against the plans on Thursday 21st November from 8:45am at the AHOY Centre, Borthwick Street, SE8 3JY. All are welcome, do come and join if you can!
The Deptford Church Street site wasn't even seen as an option in the initial process which identified Borthwick Wharf as the optimum site. However, they inexplicably changed their minds and are now pressing on despite overwhelming local opposition. Their own assessment shows that this site is less preferable in terms of the impact on the community and the environment.
What's more, they're asking us to pay for this disruption and are planning to increase water bills by up to £100, further adding to the cost of living crisis.
Come and join us on Thursday 21st to call on Thames
