This week is Living Wage week. The Living Wage is the amount an employee needs to be paid to afford the cost of living and not have to face poverty. In London, the Living Wage is currently £8.80/hr.
Evidence shows it's not only good for the employees themselves, but it has benefits for the employer and for the wider community.
We are proud that Lewisham Council was one of the first local authorities to sign up to pay the Living Wage. We're also proud that other prominent local employers - such as Goldsmiths University - are Living Wage employers.
But we need to go much further. We want more local employers to pay the Living Wage. In the coming months, we will be working with the community to encourage more businesses to adopt the Living Wage. If you want to be part of the campaign, do get in touch.
A fair day's work deserves a fair day's pay.
